Copilot in OneDrive, Simpler Approvals and eSignature: The Spring Updates You Shouldn’t Miss

In part 1 of my review of Microsoft’s Spring 2025 SharePoint update I covered agents, autofill and Copilot Studio. In this part I look at the updates that make daily collaboration easier. They get fewer headlines, but your users will notice them first.

1️⃣ Copilot in OneDrive

Copilot in OneDrive keeps getting smarter. Instead of opening files one by one, people can ask Copilot to summarise, compare or find information across their files.

A typical example I show: “Compare these three proposals and list the differences in price and delivery time.” It is a real time saver for anyone who works with many versions of documents.

2️⃣ A new sharing experience

Sharing is one of those things everyone does and nobody thinks about, until something is shared with the wrong people. The new sharing experience makes it clearer who will get access and how.

From a governance point of view I welcome anything that helps users make the right sharing decision the first time.

3️⃣ Simplified approvals

Approvals in SharePoint lists and libraries have been simplified. Request approval on a document, see who needs to approve, and track the status, without building a flow.

4️⃣ SharePoint eSignature improvements

SharePoint eSignature keeps the whole signing process inside Microsoft 365, so the signed document stays where your content already lives, with your permissions and retention policies. The spring update brought further improvements.

What I recommend

  • Show Copilot in OneDrive to people who handle many documents: sales, legal, procurement.
  • Include the new sharing experience in your user training.
  • Replace simple approval flows with built-in approvals where possible.
  • Look at eSignature for internal documents such as policies, HR forms and contracts.

My take

The AI headlines get the attention, but these collaboration updates are what make people’s day easier. Combine both, and SharePoint and OneDrive become a place where work actually gets done, not just stored.

Which of these features would your users appreciate the most? 🙌
